Legacy Program Empowers Women During ICC Africa Qualifier

As Windhoek plays host to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, eight African nations – including hosts Namibia – are competing for just two spots in the next stage of qualification on the road to the World Cup in England.

Beyond the on-field action, Cricket Namibia has launched a Legacy Program aimed at upskilling and empowering women during the course of the tournament. The initiative underscores the organisation’s commitment to creating lasting impact for women both within and outside of cricket.

The first session featured Salome Iyambo, a former Namibia national player who has represented the country in football and basketball, and who also brings a wealth of experience as an international sports administrator. Salome shared valuable insights on the importance of building a career beyond sport while still following one’s passion, encouraging players to plan for life after competition.

The second session was led by Afra Schimming-Chase, CFP, a highly accomplished financial expert and entrepreneur. With professional credentials as a Certified Financial Planner and a strong background in law, Afra delivered an engaging session on financial literacy. She highlighted the importance of budgeting, saving, and investing wisely, equipping players with tools to make sound financial decisions.

The Legacy Program continues throughout the tournament with the next session scheduled for the 4th of September 2025.
