Capricorn Eagles “A” Complete Six-Match Series Against Ireland U19 Women with 4–2 Victory

The Capricorn Eagles “A” team concluded a six-match T20 series against Ireland U19 Women with an impressive 4–2 series victory, following a week of competitive cricket at HP Oval from 25 to 31 October 2026.

The series provided a valuable development opportunity for Namibian women’s cricket, bringing together a combination of experienced senior players and young, emerging talent to compete against an international youth side from Ireland, an ICC Full Member nation.

The initiative formed part of Cricket Namibia’s continued commitment to strengthening the women’s game by creating opportunities for players to gain international match experience, develop their skills and build confidence against opposition from established cricketing nations.

While the opposition was Ireland’s U19 Women’s team, the series offered an important opportunity for Namibia’s developing players to test themselves against an international team operating within a Full Member cricketing environment.

A particular highlight of the series was the outstanding contribution of Mekelaye Mwatile, who emerged as the Capricorn Eagles “A” team’s leading run-scorer. Across her fiur games, Mwatile accumulated an impressive 225 runs, including three half-centuries, with a highest score of 79. She finished with a remarkable batting average of 112.50 and a strike rate of 124.31.

Mwatile was also given the opportunity to captain the Capricorn Eagles “A” side in two games during the series, taking on additional responsibility and leading by example both with the bat and through her contribution to the team. In addition to her batting performances, she claimed five wickets, underlining her value as an all-round player.

With the ball, Victoria Hamunyela was another standout performer, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker with five wickets in five matches. Her best figures were 3/16, while she maintained an economy rate of 5.13.

Wilka Mwatile also made an important contribution to the bowling attack, claiming four wickets in four matches. Her best figures of 3/8 and economy rate of 3.33 highlighted her effectiveness throughout the series.

With the bat, Sunè Wittmann provided another valuable contribution, scoring 95 runs across four matches, with a highest score of 44.

The series also presented an opportunity for several young and emerging players to gain exposure alongside more experienced members of the squad, allowing them to learn from senior teammates while experiencing the demands of international-level competition.

The Capricorn Eagles “A” secured victories in the first two matches, before Ireland U19 Women claimed the third encounter in a Super Over after the scores were tied. The Capricorn Eagles “A” team responded with a six-wicket victory in the fourth match and followed it up with another six-wicket win in the fifth. Ireland claimed the final match by nine wickets, bringing the series to a 4–2 conclusion in favour of the Capricorn Eagles “A”.

Beyond the results, the series represented an important step in Cricket Namibia’s ongoing efforts to grow the women’s game, strengthen the player pathway and ensure that emerging Namibian talent receives the exposure and competitive experience required to progress towards higher levels of the game.
