The Capricorn Eagles, Namibia’s national women’s cricket team, are on an exciting nationwide tour in search of the next generation of cricket talent.
As part of their Talent Identification Roadshow, the team has split into two groups, travelling to Outjo and Otjiwarongo to spend time with aspiring young players. Outjo, one of the largest hubs for girls’ cricket was thrilled to welcome their cricket role models, the Capricorn Eagles, to their community.
In Otjiwarongo, the enthusiasm and skill of the young girls stood out, with participants from Tsumeb and Grootfontein also joining in for the opportunity to learn from Namibia’s top women cricketers.
The roadshow focuses on the fundamentals of cricket, hands-on coaching sessions, and practical demonstrations by the Eagles’ head coach and players. The aim is to identify and nurture emerging talent while continuing to strengthen the pipeline for women’s cricket in Namibia.
With the U19 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers taking place in Tanzania in 2026, this initiative comes at a crucial time as Head Coach Francois van der Merwe and his team look to build a strong and competitive squad.
“We’re very excited about this roadshow. Our main goal is talent identification,” said Van der Merwe. “We’ve been part of this development pipeline for the past five years, and it’s vital to keep upskilling girls across the country. The growth in girls’ cricket in Namibia is remarkable, and it’s inspiring to see such passion and interest, especially following our women’s qualification for the Global Qualifiers.”
The Capricorn Eagles are determined to reach every corner of Namibia, continuing their mission to grow the game and inspire young girls through cricket. The next stop on the tour will be at the Coast in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, home to most of our Capricorn Eagles and the country’s strongest cricket hubs.
The Capricorn Eagles are taking it one stride at a time, determined to reach every corner of the country. After their visits to the coast, the team will start planning for a roadshow to the far north and far south of Namibia, ensuring that no talent goes unseen.
Because for the Capricorn Eagles, this isn’t just a roadshow; it’s a movement to uplift, empower, and unite girls across Namibia through the spirit of cricket.
