Namibia Women’s Team Western Province Women’s Development Tour to Cape Town 13 to 21 February 2016

Throughout the month of January normal practice resumed for the Namibia Women’s cricket team. They played T20’s against boys U15’s on Saturday’s. All practices and matches were part of preparation for the tour to Cape Town from 13 to 21 February 2016 . They participated in the Western Province Women’s Development Tournament against County teams from England, Warwickshire, Hampshire County and Cornwall County. The Namibian Women’s Team showed good competition by winning all 3 the games against the County Teams. They also had a training session with Cobus Roodt form the Western Province who is a Coach for WP Women’s Team and SA Emerging Team.

U 19 Girls 8 Nations International Tournaments BCA Gaborone 23 TO 28 August 2016

The U19 Girls competed in Gaborone in August 23 to 28 in the BCA U19 Girls 8 Nations Tournament. The Countries who participated in this tournament were Malawi, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique, Gauteng Invitational Team and Zambia. The U19 Girls Team defeated all their opponents in the 8 Nations Tournament, not only winning the Trophy they also bagged all the tournament’s awards.

Namibia Women’s Team tour to Gauteng Jan 2017

The Women’s Team was selected on 29 October and toured to Gauteng on 8 to 14 January 2017, where they played a series of warm up matches against Gauteng A & B Women’s Teams and Northerns Women’s Team. The Team’s goal is to go to the African Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in November 2017.

Day 1 - Tuesday 10 January Randburg Cricket Club

Match 1 – T20: Gauteng A Women’s vs Namibia Women’s – Gauteng won the toss and elected to bat.
They scored 113/3 in 20 overs. Rene Schulze 1-17 in 4 overs, Irene van Zyl 1-13 in 4 overs.
Namibia 60 all out. Hannelise de Klerk 13, Marelise Jacobs 10. Gauteng won by 53 runs.

Match 2 – T20: Gauteng B vs Namibia – Namibia won the toss and elected to bat. Namibia made 77/8 in
20 overs. Outstanding performance by junior player Adri Van Der Merwe scoring 33 runs of the 77
for Namibia. Gauteng 60-8 in 20 overs. Rene Schulze 3-7 in 4 overs. Petro Enright 2-15 in 4 overs.
Namibia won by 17 runs.

Day 2 - Wednesday 11 January Ransburg Cricket Club

Match 3 – 40 Overs: Gauteng A vs Namibia – Gauteng won the toss and elected to field.
Namibia made 65 all out in 33 overs. Irene van Zyl 17 runs. Gauteng 66-3. Rene Schulze 2-7 in 4 overs
Gauteng won by 7 wickets.

Day 3 - Thursday 12 January Sino Ville Cricket Club

Match 4 – T20: Northerns vs Namibia – Namibia won toss and elected to bowl first. Northerns
finished on 96-4. Hannelise de Klerk 2-20 in 4 overs. Namibia 97-2. Petro Enright 37 ,
Yasmeen Khan 25 and Irene Van Zyl 24 not out.
Namibia made 97/2 and won the match by 8 wickets.
Match 5 – T20: Northerns vs Namibia – Namibia won the toss and elected to bat. Namibia made 80/7.
Irene van Zyl 34 not out, Hannelise de Klerk 14.
Northerns 81-3. Hannelise de Klerk 2-15 in 3 overs.
Northerns won by 7 wickets.

Day 4 - Friday 13 January Sino Ville Cricket Club

Match 6 – T20: Northerns vs Namibia – Northerns won the toss and elected to field. Namibia 78/8.
Yasmeen Khan 20, Petro Enright 19.
Northern s 79-5 in 19.3. Petro Enright 2-12 in 4 overs. Northerns won by 8 wickets.
Match 7 – T20: Northerns vs Namibia – Northerns won the toss and elected to bat. Gauteng made 100/5.
Namibia finished on 94-2 in 20 overs losing by only 6 runs.

Training

The Senior Women’s Team training Camp was conducted on 10 to 12 June at Wanderers which Included the players from all Regions which gave them the opportunity to train all together As a Team. A fitness evaluation was done. The training camp was rounded off with a T20 match Played at CCD.
Three of the players who have obtained a Level 1 Coaching Certificate last year, attended the Coaches Forum which was presented by Cricket Namibia on 10 June at Wanderers.

The next Training Camp and Trials for the Senior Women’s Team was conducted on the 28 & 29 October at Wanderers. Sune Oosthuizen an ex Protea Women’s Player and a coach for school’s teams, was invited to attend the training camp as a consultant.
The camp was concluded with a T20 Match on the Saturday evening. The Ladies continued with Training until 10 December and resume training on 6 January 2017 with a Training Camp before Their departure to Gauteng on the 8th of January 2017.

The U19 & U16 Girls Training Camp and Trials were conducted over the weekend of 17 to 19 June upon where a squad of 15 U19’s were selected for the August U19 - 8 Nations Tournament hosted in Gaborone, Botswana. At this training camp an U16 squad was also selected to prepare for the Gauteng
U16 Girls Cricket Festival which is due from 3 to 6 December in Gauteng.

National women’s leagues:

The Women’s National Time Cricket league first rounds were completed in October 2015 and resumed on Saturday 2 April 2016 with the Zebras team who travelled to Walvis Bay to play against Blue Waters at Sparta. Zebras won the match and with this the Time league was concluded with The Zebras Ladies as the overall winners of the League.

CRICKET NAMIBIA WOMEN’S T20 FRANCHISE LEAGUE JUNE/JULY 2016.

The T20 Womens Franchise League commenced on 25 June at the United Sports Grounds in Windhoek.
Four womens teams participated against each other on a round robin basis over the next four weekends.

PHARMA DYNAMICS vs CLERK OF WORKS

Pharma Dynamics won with 44 runs.

KALAHARI FREIGHT vs COASTAL COURIERS

Kalahari Freight won with 19 runs.

The next round of matches were played on Saturday 2 July at Doc Jubber fields: Coastal Couriers played against Pharma Dynamics and won by 3 runs.
Sunday 3 July Clerk of Works took on Kalahari Freight and won by 43 runs.
On Saturday 9 July the four teams continued their battle against each other for a place in the finals.

The finals were played at United Sports fields on Saturday 16 July between Coastal Couriers and Pharma Dynamics. It was an exciting and very competitive match with two well matched teams. Pharma Dynamics ultimately beating Coastal Couriers by 5 runs and were crowned the overall winners of the Womens T20 Franchise League 2016.

The League was concluded with an awards ceremony where Mr. Richard Frankle, our President of Cricket Namibia presented the awards to the winners and runners up.

The competition was a great success. The League enjoyed and attracted much interest and It was well attended by the sponsors, parents and the public.
This initiative proved that there is a place for the game amongst Women and Girls in Namibia. It attracted new players mostly whom are hockey players, who participated in the league. These players will be incorporated into the Womens Club Teams for the upcoming cricket season.
